The Human Peace Foundation Old Age Home recently hosted a transformative visit by students from Jesus and Mary College, who brought energy, creativity, and compassion to its elderly residents
This professionally organized event aimed to foster intergenerational bonding while promoting mental and emotional well-being, aligning with the foundation’s mission to provide holistic care for seniors.
The day commenced with an engaging lineup of games, beginning with Tambola, a popular Indian adaptation of bingo that sparked laughter and excitement.
The students skillfully facilitated the game, ensuring every resident participated, and introduced additional games to maintain the lively atmosphere.
This interactive session not only entertained but also strengthened social connections, breaking the monotony often experienced by the elderly. Following the games, the students led a creative activity—thumb printing—where residents and students collaborated to create vibrant artwork using their fingerprints.
This hands-on endeavor fostered a sense of accomplishment and joy, as the participants blended youthful enthusiasm with the wisdom of age, resulting in unique, colorful masterpieces. The event’s highlight was an educational session where the students shared professional insights on managing mind stress.
Drawing from their academic training and personal experiences, they discussed practical techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness exercises, and the importance of positive thinking.
This resonated deeply with the residents, many of whom face isolation and anxiety in their later years. The students’ thoughtful presentation empowered the elderly with tools to enhance their mental resilience, reinforcing the foundation’s commitment to mental health alongside physical care.
